Story
Sienna, quinacridone, and bronze oh my!
Every time I spend time in Bend or Terrebonne, in the high and rocky desert of central Oregon, I get a sense of peace that is hard to come by. I felt similarly that sense of home the first time I visited Santa Fe and all of its desert magic. When it’s gloomy and dark in our PNW winters, I don’t dream of a tropical beach; I dream of a high desert retreat, sunny on a mountain, cold at night, nestled by a fire. The desert appears but hides its unique version of chaos, beauty, and wildlife.
After I finished painting this, I remember learning of Walter De Maria’s Lightning Field in New Mexico in my college contemporary art history class. It’s been on my bucket list ever since.
